Gas Powered Games today announced the release date for Age of Empires Online, an attempt at combining classic real-time strategy with the persistent world of a massively multiplayer online game. Age of Empires Online is currently only being offered through digital distribution, and will be available for download on August 16, 2011.
At launch, Age of Empires Online will feature two civilizations - the Greeks and Egyptians. "As players grow their empires and look for new adventures, Age of Empires Online delivers the opportunity to buy new Premium Content Packs – everything from entirely new civilizations to Booster Packs with new game modes and more," the developer said.
"It's the biggest Age of Empires game ever."
